Rocco Becht’s father named XFL head coach

Anthony Becht, the father of first-year Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht, was named the head coach of an XFL franchise on Wednesday.

The league, set to re-launch in February of 2023, named eight head coaches that have been slated to lead teams into their seasons.

Among the other seven coaches named are both former Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops and former Pittsburgh Steeler Hines Ward.

“This is yet another huge moment for the XFL,” the league’s own Dwayne Johnson said. “I have experienced first-hand the positive influence and impact that coaches can have on a player’s life, and with our group of smart, accomplished and motivating head coaches, I expect nothing less. Not only will these coaches be mentors to our players, but they will be a big part of the cities in which we will operate.”

Those cities have not been announced by the league yet.

Becht’s previous coaching experience comes from Wiregrass Ranch High School, where he was the offensive coordinator after spending 12 years in the NFL.

Rocco played for the school throughout his high school career and has practiced with the Cyclones all spring.

Rocco will join the Cyclones for his first season of eligibility this fall.
