Martin Owusu is a three-star defensive line prospect with 20 FBS offers to his name. He’s rated by 247Sports as the No. 9 recruit in the state of Minnesota for the 2023 class.
Iowa State was one of his past four offers, which all came from Power Five programs. However, the Minnesota native has not yet seen one from the Gophers.
He’s not letting him impact though.
“With Minnesota, I want to be as optimistic as I can. I haven’t really been recruited by them much, but it’s out of my hands at this point as to who’s recruiting me. It’s definitely motivating.”
In fact, the offers that do come in for the 6-foot-3, 245-pounder mean that much more to him.
Iowa State became the latest school to offer Owusu this week, but those conversations started a year ago.
“They kind of reached out last year,” Owusu said. “I went to a camp and then also got to go to a game day.”
Owusu attended a summer camp at Iowa State, stayed in contact with the staff and later visited for the school’s night game against Texas.
“That was just through-the-roof hospitality,” Owusu said. “I had a great time. That was probably a big thing that is going to help my decision – seeing that and seeing how their fans are.”
Owusu is setting up an official visit that he told CycloneFanatic will most likely be in June.
He’ll then have a goal of making his decision prior to the start of the fall football season.
“My goal is to commit before my senior season. That’s a big thing for me. I want to just focus on my team and focus on my play instead of other things that I don’t need to worry about for my senior season.”
