No. 5 Iowa State closesout dual season with 17-16 win over No. 8 Missouri

For the first time since 2010, Iowa State has finished the regular season undefeated in the Big 12 Conference.

The Cyclones notched their 13th-straight win on Wednesday, taking down the Missouri Tigers 17-16 on the road.

Iowa State continues to hold the second-longest win streak in the nation behind No. 1 Penn State.

It was always going to be a tough battle, as the Cyclones were evenly matched against the Tigers. The Tigers were second in the Big 12 with an 8-1 record.

David Carr, Yonger Bastida, and Ian Parker were the true difference makers in the team win.

In the final regular dual match of his career, Parker took down Ethan Turner in a 10-3 major decision.

It was Parker at his peak.

He was dominant and ground his guy down, something he often does but this time he set himself apart by winning 10-2, which brought in crucial bonus points for the team.

David Carr is as reliable as it gets when it comes to securing bonus-point wins.

The defending national champion secured a 14-4 win to notch his 50th straight victory.

This is where 197-pounder Bastida enters.

The Cuban native has shown that he is a difference-maker after securing the only bonus point of the dual the week prior against Northern Iowa.

Iowa State dropped back-to-back-to-back losses at 165, 174, and 184 putting Iowa State in the position to only hold a one-point lead in the dual.

He just had to defeat No. 6 Rocky Elam.

Bastida had a rough start to the match when he was down 4-0. This isn’t something he has been used to so far this season being used to being the aggressor. In his last four matches, he has scored 83 points alone and he currently leads the team in most takedowns in duals with 76 total takedowns for the season.

He fought back.

Something seemed to click inside of Bastida in the third period because he became the main aggressor pushing Elam to be called twice for stalling and tied the match to go into a sudden victory.

Bastida walked out with his hand raised and secured the dual for the Cyclones.
