No. 7 Cyclones Down #21 Oklahoma 22-9
NORMAN, Okla. – The seventh-ranked Iowa State Cyclones won seven matches Friday night, as the Cyclones defeated No. 21 Oklahoma 22-9.
Iowa State picked up its eighth-straight victory, improving to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in the Big 12. Iowa State currently has the third-longest winning streak in the country heading into Sunday’s match with No. 3 Oklahoma State. The Cowboys have the second-longest winning streak in the nation at 20. Sunday’s match will start at 2 p.m. in Stillwater and will be available on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
Oklahoma took an early lead, as No. 32 Joey Prata handed No. 19 Kysen Terukina his first loss of the season at 125 pounds. Terukina cut the lead to 6-4 with an escape with 1:53 left in the match, but couldn’t get the final takedown for the victory.
At 133 pounds, No. 33 Ramazan Attasauov bounced back from a fall in his last match with a 4-1 victory over No. 14 Anthony Madrigal. Attasauov recorded a takedown with :38 left in the first period, while adding a pair of escapes in the third period for the victory.
No. 11 Ian Parker had a pair of takedowns and a reversal, as he beat Jacob Butler 8-3 at 141 pounds. Leading 5-3 in the second period, Parker used a reversal with :15 left in the period to extend the lead to 7-3.
Willie McDougald had a takedown with 1:07 left in sudden victory, as he knocked-off No. 21 Jarrett Degen 4-2 at 149 pounds.
Top-ranked David Carr defeated No. 16 Justin Thomas 3-1 for his 46th-straight victory. Carr had a takedown in the first period before escaping early in the third period for the victory.
At 165 pounds, Isaac Judge downed No. 31 Joe Grello 8-4. With the match tied at 2-2, Judge recorded a takedown into a four-point nearfall with :04 left in the second period to take an 8-2 lead.
No. 18 Joel Devine used an escape in the third period to beat No. 32 Anthony Mantanona 3-2 at 174 pounds. Trailing 1-0 in the second period, Devine had a takedown with :40 left in the period for the only takedown of the match.
At 184 pounds, No. 8 Marcus Coleman picked up a 13-5 major decision over No. 26 Darrien Roberts. Coleman had a 4-2 lead in the second period before using a takedown with :51 left in the period to put Roberts on his back for a pair of nearfall points. With :01 left, Coleman added a takedown and a point for riding time for the major decision.
No. 14 Yonger Bastida dropped a 4-2 decision to No. 12 Jake Woodley at 197 pounds. Bastida escaped in the second period for a 1-0 lead. Woodley escaped early in the third period and notched a takedown with :50 left to secure the victory.
In the final match of the night, No. 21 Sam Schuyler beat No. 29 Josh Heindselman 5-3. Schuyler had the first takedown :11 into the match and added a final takedown with :49 left to secure the victory.
