RECRUITING: Iowa State hosting pair of sought after 2023 prospects this weekend

Iowa State men’s basketball is off to a hot start to the 2021-22 season and they’re hoping to swing that into momentum on the recruiting trail.

The Cyclones will host 2023 guard Cam Christie and wing Devin Royal for official visits this weekend ahead of the program’s game against Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday, a source confirmed to Cyclone Fanatic on Friday. The visits were first reported by The Des Moines Register‘s Matt Bain.

Royal, a 6-foot-6, 210-pound Pickerington, Ohio, native, is considered the No. 121 player in the 2023 class, No. 26 small forward and No. 6 player in Ohio by 247Sports. Iowa State became the latest school to offer Royal on Oct. 14, joining an offer list that includes Ohio State, Kansas State, Xavier, Penn State, Butler, Dayton and numerous other Division I programs

Christie, a 6-foot-3, 160-pound shooting guard from Rolling Meadows, Ill., is considered the No. 104 player in the class, No. 24 shooting guard and No. 2 player from Illinois. The younger brother of current Michigan State star, and former five-star recruit, Max Christie, picked up an Iowa State offer on July 26. He also holds offers from Iowa, Ohio State, Michigan State, Minnesota, Purdue and Ole Miss.

As of today, Iowa State has eight scholarships available for the 2023 recruiting class, but that is obviously fluid in today’s age of college basketball, especially for a class still a year out from signing letters of intent.

Stay tuned to Cyclone Fanatic for more on this story after the weekend.
