Cyclones to wear all-black uniforms vs. Oklahoma

Was there ever any doubt?

Iowa State football made it official on Wednesday by announcing the Cyclones will wear their all-black uniforms for the fourth time in program history when No. 18 Oklahoma visits Jack Trice Stadium for a 6:30 p.m. kick televised nationally on ABC.

Iowa State is 3-0 when wearing their all-black fit, which made its debut for the dominant win over No. 6 West Virginia in 2018. Their second appearance came later that season for the Cyclones’ come-from-behind win over Kansas State, which snapped a 10-game losing streak against the Wildcats.

The Cyclones wore all black only once in 2019, in the program’s win over Texas, which is best remembered for Connor Assalley’s game-winning field goal as time expired. The program did wear the black jerseys with white helmets and white pants for the 2019 win over TCU.

In only three seasons as part of the program’s uniform repertoire, the all blacks have been part of some fantastic memories for Cyclone faithful. On Saturday, they will face their stiffest test yet with the five-time defending Big 12 champions coming to town in primetime.
