Starting punter Corey Dunn out for season with Achilles injury

Iowa State will be without its starting punter during the 2019 football season.

In what sources told Cyclone Fanatic was a “freak accident” warming up a few weeks ago, junior Corey Dunn tore his Achilles Tendon.

Dunn started every game at punter for Iowa State in 2018, averaging 40.17 yards per kick in 53 attempts. Dunn pinned 23 of those punts inside of the 20.

What’s next for the Cyclones?

Quietly over the 4th of July, Iowa State added a transfer punter to its equation. Brian Papazian, formerly of San Jose State, announced this news on Twitter.

According to sources, Papazian will battle with junior Joe Rivera, who punted twice last season for the Cyclones (both vs. Drake).

Papazian, kicked the ball 15 times last season for the Spartans, averaging 38.1 yards per punt.

Both Papazian and Rivera are walk-ons at Iowa State.

Losing Dunn is a a tough start to the season for Iowa State injury wise, but at least there are a couple guys who have played before ready to compete in fall camp.
