Recruiting Roundup: June 30, 2018

Offensive guard Darrell Simmons (East St. Louis, Ill.) was the first commit of the weekend.  After an offer on June 14th, Simmons both visited and committed to the Cyclones on Saturday.  He is rated as the No. 102 OG in the class with offers from Northern Illinois, Ohio, South Dakota State, SE Missouri State, Southern Illinois and Western Illinois.

Iowa State received a commitment from athlete DK Blaylock (New Deal, Texas) who was on his official visit last weekend.  Rated as the No. 81 athlete and No. 923 overall, Blaylock held offers from Illinois, UTEP, Texas State, Bowling Green and Southern Miss.

The last commitment of the week was a very important one, as the Cyclones filled a position of need with a top target in running back Breece Hall (Wichita, Kan.).  After releasing a top eight on Twitter last weekend, Hall quickly decided he was ready to go ahead and pledge to ISU on Thursday.  He is rated as the No. 70 RB and No. 1034 overall.  His impressive offer list included Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State, Louisville, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Purdue, Rutgers, South Dakota State, TCU and Tennessee.

Iowa State’s class is now ranked 31st for 2019 according to 247 Composite and projects to finish somewhere in 45-55 range based on average player rating compared to past classes.

BASKETBALL LATEST:

*** Iowa State handed out their first offer for the class of 2021 to shooting guard Dallan Coleman (Callahan, Fla.) on Sunday.  Florida became the first offer for the 6’4″ target Saturday.

*** Class of 2020 power forward Chris Moore (West Memphis, Ark.) announced an offer from the Cyclones on Thursday.  His other offers include Arkansas, Memphis, SMU, Southern Miss and TCU.

FOOTBALL LATEST:

*** ISU made the top four for wide receiver Fabian McCray (Chicago, Ill.), joining Illinois, Minnesota and West Virginia.  McCray announced his list via Twitter last Sunday.  He received his offer January 16th and visited February 24th, but has long been thought to be headed to Illinois.

*** Offensive tackle Grant Treiber (Sioux Falls, S.D.) has a top four of Iowa State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Oregon according to this article by Brian Haenchen of the Sioux Falls Argus Leader.  He received an offer from the Cyclones in April on a visit and returned for another visit June 2nd.  He also visited Minnesota this month and took his lone official visit to Oregon last weekend.
