Iowa State point guard Lindell Wigginton was one of a handful of players to go through a pre-draft workout for the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday, according to the franchise’s Twitter account. The Lakers currently have two picks in next month’s NBA Draft, a first-round pick acquired in a trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers and a second-round pick acquired in a trade with the Denver Nuggets.
Wigginton, a 6-foot-2 guard from Canada, averaged 16.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game during one of the best seasons by a freshman in Iowa State history. He has declared for the NBA Draft without hiring an agent and has until May 30 to decide whether or not he will stay in the draft or return to Ames for his sophomore season.
At this point, Wigginton is not considered a player likely to be selected in the NBA Draft on June 21 in Brooklyn and he was not invited to the NBA Draft scouting combine later this month in Chicago. With that said, Iowa State head coach Steve Prohm said last week he has heard from roughly a dozen teams about Wigginton and he expects him to go through several team-led workouts in the weeks leading up to the May 30 deadline.
