Lindell Wigginton was able to set the internet ablaze, but Iowa State didn’t have enough to leave Norman with a win on Friday. The Cyclones battled closely with Oklahoma in both teams’ regular-season finale before coming away with an 81-60 loss at the Lloyd Noble Center.
Wigginton led the way for Iowa State with 20 points, including a monster slam dunk over Oklahoma senior forward Khadeem Lattin.
Donovan Jackson and Jeff Beverly both joined Wigginton by scoring in double-figures with 10 and 11 points, respectively. Beverly also contributed a game-high 15 rebounds.
Oklahoma’s offense was powered by a balanced attack between Trae Young, Christian James and Cameron McGusty. All three players scored in double-figures with McGusty’s 18 points leading the way.
The Cyclones went just 3-of-20 from behind the 3-point line and shot just 42 percent from the field. Perhaps the biggest statistical difference is Oklahoma’s 22 points off of 14 Iowa State turnovers compared to seven Cyclone points off of six OU giveaways.
The loss drops Iowa State to 13-17 and 4-14 in Big 12 play as they enter the Big 12 tournament in Kansas City next week. The Cyclones will play in the nightcap of Wednesday night’s doubleheader at the Sprint Center.
