IRVING, Texas – The Big 12 Conference announced its weekly men’s basketball award winners on Monday morning. Cameron Lard was named the conference’s Newcomer of the Week. This marks the second time that Lard has received newcomer of the week honors this season.

Lard, a redshirt freshman, averaged 20.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals as ISU split a pair of games last week. In the Cyclones win against Oklahoma, Lard went for 19 points, 17 rebounds, 2 blocks and three steals as they beat a ranked Big 12 team for the third-straight time at home.

Saturday’s game followed a 22 point and five rebound effort at Texas Tech in which he was 10-for-11 from the field. Lard was 17-for-22 from the field in the two games and he is shooting 64.4 percent from the field this season, which would break the Big 12 freshman record for field goal percentage.

With 48 blocks, Lard has already broken the ISU freshman record for blocked shots. The game against Oklahoma was his seventh double-double of the season and his second Big 12 game with at least 20 points and 15 rebounds.
