The 6-foot-8, 300-pound Central High School product is expected to be a greyshirt recruit and will not count towards Iowa State’s 85 scholarship limit in 2018 then will join the program on scholarship in January 2019.
Lawrence officially visited Ames last month then earned an offer from Matt Campbell and staff on Dec. 16. The former Illinois State commit also holds offers from South Florida, South Dakota State, South Dakota and a handful of other FCS programs.
The Cyclones currently have 20 commitments in the 2018 class with Lawrence and California defensive back/linebacker Josh Madison as the only unsigned prospects at this point. Iowa State’s class is ranked as the No. 59 class in the country and No. 7 class in the Big 12 by 247Composite.
