Senior safety Kamari Cotton-Moya’s status for Saturday’s game against Akron is still unknown, according to Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell.

The preseason All-Big 12 honoree left last weekend’s loss to Iowa during the third quarter due to an elbow injury.

“I think still day-to-day,” Campbell said after practice Wednesday night. “I think we’ll know a lot more by the time we get to Saturday. I expect to see him at least give it a try, but we’ll see where we’re at by the time we get to Saturday.”

Cotton-Moya has recorded 11 tackles and an interception so far this season.

Azunna’s working his way back

Redshirt freshman defensive back Arnold Azunna has started working his way back into action after being sidelined the first two weeks of the season with a high ankle sprain.

The Mansfield, Texas native has been a backup cornerback for the majority of his time with the Cyclones, but is yet to see collegiate action.

“Arnold’s kind of one of those guys who had a high ankle sprain coming out of camp,” Campbell said. “Finally, starting to get back to health a little and kind of trying to find his way a little bit in terms of where does he fit. How can he help this football team. Trying to compete to get a spot.”

It is unknown at this point whether or not Azunna will be available for this weekend’s game.
