Monte Morris signs two-way contract with Denver Nuggets

Monte Morris is officially a member of the Denver Nuggets.

Iowa State’s all-time leader in assists and steals, who was taken with the 51st pick in last month’s NBA Draft, has signed a two-way contract with the franchise, according to a press release. Morris averaged 9.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, a team-high 4.3 assists and 1.33 steals in six games for Denver’s Las Vegas Summer League team this month.

The two-way contract makes it possible for Morris to spend portions of the season in Denver as well as with the team’s G-League (formerly the NBA Developmental League) affiliate. The monetary situation is complicated depending on the number of days a player spends with each team, but they can spend up to 45 days with the NBA club while being paid the minimum salary of $815,615.

Players on two-way contracts do not count against the team’s salary cap and during the time spent in the G-League they will make a salary capped at $70,000. The NBA season is broken into 170 days so with the 45 days allowed for the NBA and other 125 in the G-League, the math figures to around a maximum salary of $280,000 a year, according to HoopsHype.

Regardless of the money situation, it will be nice to see Monte spend time in the world’s peak basketball league next season.
