Matt Thomas signs to play professionally in Spain

Former Iowa State guard Matt Thomas has signed a contract to play with Spanish team Obradoiro, according to a team release. It is a one-year contract.

Thomas averaged 9.6 points per game while shooting 60 percent from 3-point range this summer for the Los Angles Lakers Las Vegas NBA Summer League team. He scored 23 points and went 5-of-5 from deep as the Lakers won the Las Vegas Summer League title last Monday.

Obradoiro, which plays in Liga ACB in Spain, went 11-21 last season while finishing 13th in the league standings.

Thomas joins Monte Morris, who signed a two-way deal with the Denver Nuggets, and Deonte Burton, who signed to play in the Korean Basketball League, as former Cyclones to sign rookie contracts this summer.
