RECRUITING: UTSA grad transfer Jeff Beverly commits to Iowa State

Iowa State has picked up a commitment from Texas-San Antonio graduate transfer Jeff Beverly during his visit to campus, according to a report by Cyclone Fanatic publisher Chris Williams. The 6-foot-6, 250-pound forward will be eligible to play for the Cyclones immediately in 2017-18.

Beverly, a League City, Texas native, averaged 15.8 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game this past season for the Roadrunners. He shot 44 percent from the field and 23 percent from 3-point range.

The Clear Springs High School product started his college career at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi where he averaged 8.2 points and 3.0 rebounds while starting all 34 games in 2013-14. He moved on to McLennan Texas CC in 2014-15 to average 8.6 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while shooting 55 percent from the floor.

Upon arriving at UTSA, Beverly initially walked onto the Roadrunners’ football team in the fall of 2015. He joined the basketball program at the end of the fall semester and redshirted the 2015-16 season. He went on to become the team’s leading scorer in 2016-17, despite not being on scholarship at the school.

“There are a lot of good schools but I am trying to be a Cyclone I want to play there,” Beverly told Williams last week. “I like they way they play. They let their players play. They use their talents, like Deonte Burton. He did his thing. They use mismatches. I think I can do that.”

Iowa State now has two scholarships left to the fill for the 2017-18 season with Princeton graduate transfer forward Hans Brase set to visit Ames early next week. Stay tuned to Cyclone Fanatic through the weekend for any developments in hoops recruiting.
