Bridget Carleton invited back to Team Canada training camp this summer

AMES, Iowa – Canada Basketball announced the 33 invitees to its phase Women’s National Team Program Assessment camp. For the second consecutive season, Iowa State sophomore Bridget Carleton will attend.

Last summer, Carleton, now 19 years old, was the youngest invitee to phase one of the national team camp. She advanced to phase two, and was later named as an alternate to the Canadian national team for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The camp is set to take place May 12-22 at the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. A squad will be selected following the camp to attend a five-game mini tournament in France and Spain. The Canadian basketball team is currently ranked No. 6 in the world and is coming off their second-consecutive Olympics appearance. The camp is an opportunity to prepare for the 2020 Games in Tokyo.

Carleton’s numbers this past season warrant an invite to the prestigious camp. The unanimous first-team All-Big 12 selection averaged 15 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game. She was second in the nation in free throw percentage, netting 93.9% of her attempts from the charity stripe. She paced Bill Fennelly‘s NCAA tournament squad in 3-pointers made (64), steals (38) and blocks (31).
