On Monday afternoon, the new-look Iowa State wrestling program landed a 2017 recruit, Mac Southard from Lewis Central High School in Council Bluffs.
Southard was outstanding last season. At 160-pounds, he was the No. 2 wrestler in his class while compiling a 35-2 record. Southard finished second at State after losing to West Des Moines Valley’s Joel Shapiro, 5-3.
Southard is new Iowa State head coach Kevin Dresser’s first commitment. He joins Austin Gomez from Illinois, Ryan Leisure from Clear Lake and Ames native Marcus Coleman, who were all recruited under from ISU head coach Kevin Jackson, as apart of Iowa State’s 2017 recruiting class.
Southard projects to wrestle at 157 or 165-pounds at Iowa State.
