RECRUITING: Iowa State hosting a handful of key prospects this weekend

Iowa State will host a handful of key prospects for unofficial visits this weekend when the Cyclones hold their final scrimmage before the spring game next Saturday (1 p.m.).

The first player of note is 2018 Texas wide receiver Sterling Galban, who picked up an Iowa State offer early last week. He is rated as the No. 181 pass catcher in the class by 247Composite and also holds offers from Dartmouth, Cornell and Columbia. The 5-foot-10-inch, 175-pound Burnet, Texas, native has Iowa State high on his list and will be one to watch for a possible commitment as the weekend progresses.

Colorado wide receiver Dimitri Stanley holds an Iowa State offer and will be on campus this weekend. The Englewood, Colo., native is rated as the No. 129 wide receiver in the class by 247Composite. The 6-foot, 178-pound prospect also has offers from Nebraska, Louisville, Colorado and Colorado State.

Tennessee offensive tackle Will Lawrence has some pretty high-profile offers to his credit and he added Iowa State to that list early last week. The 6-foot-4-inch, 285-pound prospect is rated as the No. 35 offensive tackle in the class by 247Composite and will make his first trip to Ames this weekend. He also holds offers from Arizona State, Clemson, North Carolina, Michigan, Ohio State, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Oklahoma, USC, UCLA and a host of other Power 5 programs.

Iowa State will also host a pair of in-state prospects in the class of 2019. Lewis Central quarterback Max Duggan has already made several trips to Ames since last summer and he’ll make another this weekend. The 6-foot-2-inch, 175-pound signal caller also holds offers from Iowa and Minnesota. He attended Minnesota’s junior day last weekend.

Council Bluffs, Thomas Jefferson running back Cameron Baker has hopped onto the scene as one of the top in-state rushers in his class during his first two high school seasons and he will visit Iowa State this weekend. Iowa Preps rates Baker as the top running back in Iowa for the 2019 class and the No. 7 prospect in the class overall. He ran for 1,255 yards and 12 touchdowns on 136 carries during his sophomore season for the Yellow Jackets.
