Naz supports charity; bows out in the first round of college 3-point contest

Iowa State senior Naz Mitrou-Long didn’t make it past the first round of Thursday night’s college 3-point contest, but he did support a good cause during the one round he participated in.

Mitrou-Long scored 11 points in the contest’s quarterfinals and did so while wearing sunglasses to support the charity Be the Match, which manages the largest bone marrow transplant registry in the world. His first round output was the lowest of the eight competitors.

Naz was matched up against Iowa senior Peter Jok, who went on to win the men’s competition, in the first round. Jok tied with Kansas State sharpshooter Kindred Wesemann for the overall title, but she was deemed the winner based on a tiebreaker.

Mitrou-Long was the fourth Cyclone to participate in the event joining Fred Hoiberg in 1995, Dedric Willoughby in 1997 and Tyrus McGee in 2013.
