What’s left for ISU two days before signing day?

There are only two days left before National Signing Day, which is the same number of spots likely left to fill in Iowa State’s 2017 recruiting class.

The Cyclones currently have 22 commits in the class and they are likely to end up in the range of 24 signees.

The top target left on the board for Iowa State is three-star Cincinnati safety Keontae Jones. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound prospect will announce his college decision sometime on Tuesday evening.

I’m pretty confident that Jones, who is the younger brother of ISU wide receiver Deshaunte Jones, will end up in Iowa State’s class but Virginia Tech and Indiana will also be in the mix. He officially visited the Cyclones the weekend of Jan. 20-22.

Jones is the No. 538 prospect in the class and No. 41 safety, according to 247 Composite.

Another prospect to keep an eye on as signing day arrives is three-star Florida wide receiver Tarique Milton. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound Bradenton native visited Ames the weekend of Sept. 23-25.

The explosive pass catcher, who caught 64 balls for 1,087 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior, is the No. 288 wide receiver in the class. It is likely he’ll announce his college decision on signing day.

California defensive back Michael Onyemaobi will announce his college decision on signing day between Nebraska, TCU and Iowa State. Last week, I was confident he was headed to Nebraska but it sounds like they are “in” with some pretty high-profile defensive back targets.

If I had to guess, I’d project that he will end up at TCU, but stay tuned.

One more wild card to follow, three-star defensive end Koby Cumberlander visited Iowa State this past weekend but it sounds like he isn’t a lock to qualify academically. Rated as the No. 75 weakside defensive end in the class, Cumberlander has been considered a Michigan State lean for quite awhile.

It seems likely the Roswell, Ga. native could end up going the JUCO route so where he ends up on that front could be telling of where he would like to play college ball in the future. Who knows how Iowa State’s fits into this situation at this point, but it will be something to monitor.

Personally, I’d predict the final two members of the Cyclones’ class will be Jones and Milton.
