RECRUITING: Moving forward after Kam White’s decommitment

Three-star Mississippi athlete Kam White has decommitted from Iowa State. The 6-foot-2, 203-pound prospect rated as the No. 27 athlete in the class by 247 Composite tweeted his decision on Wednesday.

White committed to Iowa State on August 1 and took an official visit the weekend of September 3. He was the second-highest rated prospect in Iowa State’s class, according to 247mComposite.

White is considered an Ole Miss lean and will officially visit his in-state school Jan. 27-29, the last weekend before signing day. It isn’t entirely clear what position White will play at the next level. He was initially thought of as a safety, but there was also indications that he could move to outside linebacker.

Iowa State still has three defensive backs in its 2017 class including Michigan cornerback Richard Bowens III, who is already on campus, Florida cornerback OJ Tucker and Florida cornerback Datrone Young.

The Cyclones now have 21 commitments in their 2017 class that is rated as the No. 47 class in the country and sixth-best in the Big 12 by 247 Composite.

They will likely continue to try to add at least one more defensive back to the fold before signing day on February 1. Some of the top targets will be Cincinnati safety Keonte Jones, Pittsburgh safety Kenny Robinson, who is currently committed to West Virginia, and California athlete Michael Onyemaobi, who decommitted from Cal on Wednesday.
