One of the top prospects left on Iowa State’s board is going to be a Cyclone.
Three-star Cincinnati (OH) safety Keontae Jones tweeted his commitment to the Cyclones on Monday. He’s Iowa State’s 23rd commit in the 2017 class and its third from the state of Ohio.
Jones is regarded as one of the top safeties in the Midwest and is ranked No. 9 in the region at that by Scout. He’s the No. 41 safety and No. 583 prospect overall, according to 247Composite.
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound prospect visited Iowa State the weekend of Jan. 20-22. He chose the Cyclones over a final list that included Indiana and Virginia Tech.
He’s the younger brother of Iowa State wide receiver Deshaunte Jones.
Jones is the second-highest rated high school prospect in the Cyclones’ class with two days left until National Signing Day. He’s the fourth defensive back in the class joining Michigan cornerback Richard Bowens and Florida cornerbacks OJ Tucker and Datrone Young.
Iowa State’s class is rated as the No. 50 class in the country by 247Composite. Its the seventh-best class in the Big 12.
