Naz Mitrou-Long named Big 12 Player of the Week

Iowa State guard Nazareth Mitrou-Long has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. The 6-foot-4 senior scored a career-high 37 points in a win over Drake on Saturday in the Hy-Vee Classic at Wells Fargo Arena.

He knocked down 14-of-18 shots, including eight 3-pointers. His 37 points, eight made 3-pointers, 12 3-point attempts and 14 made field goals all set or tied Wells Fargo Arena Division 1 men’s basketball records.

During the win, Mitrou-Long moved into fifth-place in program history in career 3-pointers made with 186. He’s two makes behind former teammate Georges Niang (188) and four behind Dedric Willoughby (190) for third.

The Player of the Week honor was Mitrou-Long’s second as he also won the award on Nov. 11, 2013. He was the second Cyclone to win the honor this season joining senior point guard Monte Morris.
