Iowa State’s star wide receiver will officially be back for one more go-around. Allen Lazard announced on Friday in a letter posted on his Twitter account that he will return for his senior season in 2017.
The Urbanalde native will enter his last season in Ames just seven receptions and 677 receiving yards from the all-time career bests at Iowa State. He’s also 15 receiving touchdowns away from the career record in that category, but it would take a school record number of touchdown catches in a single-season to surpass it.
“Our football team made a lot of strides this past year,” Lazard said in a press release by the school. “Coach (Matt) Campbell has this program going in the right direction and the enthusiasm and excitement within the locker room is extremely high.”
Lazard became just the fourth player to pass 1,000 yards receiving in a single-season this year with his 1,018 yards. That number is the third-highest total in a single-season at Iowa State.
He’s caught a pass in, a school record, 35 straight games.
Lazard will talk more about his decision to return to Iowa State in a press conference this afternoon at 1.
