Just hours after defeating in-state foe Drake, the Iowa State women’s basketball team landed a big time in-state recruit: Iowa City High guard, Ashley Joens.
Joens is the Cyclones’ first 2018 commit and she ranks highly in the class. The 5-foot-11 guard is a 5-star athlete, the No. 16 overall prospect in the nation and is the No. 1 recruit in Iowa according to ESPN’s HoopGurlz.
Through the first-half of her high school career, Joens has dominated. She has earned first-team all-state honors in each of her two first seasons and has become one of the state’s top scorers, cracking the top-10 in scoring both years.
Last season, Joens averaged 19.3 points–good for third in Class 5A–and 8.9 rebounds per game. During her freshman season, Joens averaged 18.7 points per contest–good for seventh in Class 5A.
Joens also had offers from Indiana, Illinois, Drake and Wisconsin.
