No QB controversy at San Jose State

There is no quarterback controversy at San Jose State (1-2). That was the message from Spartan head coach Ron Caragher gave at his Monday press conference following a 34-14 loss to Utah.

San Jose State’s offensive line gave up 10 sacks vs. the Utes while starting quarterback Kenny Potter was knocked out of the game with a knee injury. Potter was replaced by Josh Love, a freshman who went 11-for-21 for 184 yards and a touchdown (with an interception) in the loss.

Any controversy heading into a road trip to Ames?

Nope.

“Kenny Potter is our quarterback,” Caragher told the San Jose Mercury News. “He’s proven over the course of a year he can make a lot of things happen with his legs and with his arm.”

Potter completed 67 percent of his passes (182-for-270) last season while throwing 15 touchdowns compared to seven interceptions. He’s 40-for-55 (60.6 percent) with five touchdowns and two interceptions so far this year.
