Cyclone Fanatic is counting down the days until Iowa State’s season opener against Northern Iowa by bringing you a stat, former Cyclone moment or any other random tidbits every morning to help countdown the days.
Iowa State was on a three-game losing streak when the Texas Longhorns rolled into Jack Trice Stadium on Halloween night in 2015.
Losses to the other three Texas teams in the Big 12 had the Cyclones on a downswing, but redshirt freshman running back Mike Warren was emerging as a star.
He had run for 245 yards on 23 carries in an earlier loss to Texas Tech. TCU held him to just 78 yards on 22 touches but he bounced back with 28 carries for 145 yards against Baylor.
He was primed for a big night against the Longhorns, and that’s just what he had.
Warren got his biggest workload of the year, 32 carries for 157 yards, in leading the Cyclones to a 24-0 win. His three-yard touchdown run in the first quarter put the Cyclones ahead for good.
The win was Warren’s only game of the season with more than 30 carries.
