Cyclone Fanatic is counting down the days until Iowa State’s season opener against Northern Iowa by bringing you a stat, former Cyclone moment or any other random tidbits every morning to help countdown the days.
If you were to search through the Iowa State record books, you would notice that some of the Cyclones’ best wide receivers of all-time had their way with Texas A&M.
If someone were to say Todd Blythe‘s 213 receiving yards is a single game record for Iowa State, most people would believe it. However, that is only second best in program history.
What’s the best?
Well, the year was 1984. Iowa State’s second game that season was against Texas A&M and Cyclone receiver Tracy Henderson — who had led the Big 8 conference in receiving in 1983 — had a himself a field day.
Henderson toasted the Aggies’ secondary with 11 catches for 217 yards. That statistical output is still an Iowa State single-game record. Although it was an amazing accomplishment for Henderson, the Cyclones were still defeated by the Aggies 38-17.
Although Iowa State has a talented receiver in junior Allen Lazard, it would be shocking if Henderson’s single-game record is broken in 2016. However, never say never.
