No. 39- Iowa State’s 392 total points allowed last year
The Big 12 is known for flashy offense and bad defense. Not all of the Big 12’s defenses are terrible though. In fact, last year the conference had three teams in the top-75 in total defense.
Iowa State has plenty of room to improve on that side of the football though. The Cyclones had the No. 107 total defense in the country and that group gave up 392 total points. That means the Cyclones allowed 32.7 points per game last year compared to the 25 per game (300 total) that the offense put up.
But looking at the rest of the conference, that 392 total points allowed was good for No. 6 in the Big 12. Iowa State allowed less total points than Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Kansas and Texas Tech.
For the Cyclones to have a better season this upcoming year, that number needs to decrease in 2016.
