Texas DE set to attend ISU satellite camp

Cyclone Nation wasn’t the only place where waves were made when it was announced that Matt Campbell and his staff would link up with Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh for a satellite camp.

Those waves carried over the recruiting trail, and that’s where they could make the biggest impact.

With the camp less than two weeks away, recruits from the state of Texas and surrounding areas are making their plans to attend, including Cedar Hill, Texas, defensive end Deven Lamp.

“From what I’ve researched so far I’m very intrigued with the culture and fanbase,” Lamp told CF in a message earlier this week. “Talking to Coach Campbell, I like his down to earth nature and they have a great, energetic staff.”

The Cyclones are the first Power 5 offer for Lamp after he’d picked up offers from Army, Cornell and Nevada. One interesting tidbit, the 6-foot-3-inch, 218 pound, prospect plans to major in engineering.

“How good of an engineering school it is,” Lamp said when asked what factors will play in his college decision. “What type of education I’ll be getting, the atmosphere and culture of the football stadium, coaching staff and player connections.”

Lamp hasn’t been to Ames as of yet and doesn’t have anything planned in the near future, but a good impression during the camp in Addison, Texas could go a long way in helping the Cyclones secure his commitment.

“It’s still very early for me and I believe my recruiting process is just kicking off with Iowa State being my biggest offer so far,” Lamp said. “I’m just really trying to get an idea of what exactly I’m looking for in a school and exploring.”
