AMES — Monday night’s game between No. 19 Iowa State and top-ranked Oklahoma was typical. These two program always go at it.
This time, Iowa State came out on the positive end.
Final: Iowa State 83, Oklahoma 77. It marked Iowa State’s first win over a No. 1 team since 1957 when Gary Thompson led the Cyclones past Wilt Chamberlain and the Kansas Jayhawks.
Georges Niang led the way with 22 points while Monte Morris and Abdel Nader had 20 a piece.
Iowa State held off a fierce 3-point shooting performance from the Sooners, who went 17-for-32 from long range. Buddy Hield led the way for Oklahoma with 27, while Isaiah Cousins had 26.
