One day after Kansas coach Bill Self fittingly called MontéMorris the "best player" in the Cyclones’ 85-72 Big Monday win over the Jayhawks, the ISU point guard became the top player of the week across the land.

Morris scored 21 points while rifling off nine assists (to zero turnovers) in Monday’s win and Tuesday was named the Naismith Award Player of the Week.

"All my credit goes to my teammates," Morris said late last night.

Morris Named Naismith Trophy Player of the Week

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State junior guard Monté Morris has been named the Naismith Trophy Player of the Week following his performances against TCU and No. 4 Kansas.

Morris, who on Monday was named Big 12 Player of the Week, averaged 19.5 points, 8.5 assists and 2.0 rebounds against the Horned Frogs and Jayhawks. He also shot 56 percent from the floor, 66.7 percent on 3-point attempts and 77.8 percent from the free-throw line.

Last night, Morris finished with 21 points and nine assists while committing no turnovers in the Cyclones’ win against Kansas. That performance followed his 18-point, six-assist performance against TCU.

In the last six games, Morris is averaging 19.3 points and 5.8 assists. He is shooting 60.3 percent from the field and has hit 10-of-18 3-pointers during that stretch.
