Cyclones don’t move in new polls

The Iowa State men’s basketball team stayed steady in both major college basketball polls this week by staying at No. 11 in the Associated Press poll and No. 9 in the USA Today coaches’ poll

The change in the top 10 of the AP poll this week was Kentucky jumping over the Cyclones from No. 12 to No. 10 after their win over Lousiville on Saturday. Iowa State’s first Big 12 opponent, Oklahoma, stayed put at No. 3 in the AP and No. 2 in the coaches.

Michigan State is once again the nation’s consensus No. 1 team, while Kansas sits at No. 2 in the AP and No. 3 in the coaches. Maryland and Virginia are No. 4 and No. 5 in both polls.

West Virginia (No. 19 in AP, No. 17 in coaches) and Baylor (No. 23 in AP, No. 21 in coaches) were the other two Big 12 teams in the poll.

Future ISU opponent Texas A&M is No. 20 in the AP and No. 19 in the coaches, while Cincinnati stayed at No. 22 in the AP and dropped two spots to No. 23 in the coaches’ poll.

Texas and Texas Tech both received votes in the coaches poll.

Iowa State is No. 4 in the RPI rankings to start the week while Xavier is the No. 1 team. Four Big 12 teams (No. 6 Oklahoma, No. 9 Texas Tech, No. 19 Texas, and No. 24 Kansas) are in the top 25 of the RPI.
