ISU named AutoNation National Team of the Week by the FWAA

The following is a news release from Iowa State Athletics Communications:

AMES — The Iowa State football team has been selected as the AutoNation National Team of the Week by the FWAA after its 24-0 shutout of Texas on Saturday.

Iowa State recorded just its third shutout over a Big 12 opponent in school history with a 24-0 blanking of Texas Saturday night. The Cyclones dominated the game, outgaining the Longhorns, 426-204 in total offense. The 204 yards the Cyclones surrendered is the third-lowest total ISU has allowed vs. a Big 12 opponent in school history. It was the fewest yards allowed vs. a FBS team in the Paul Rhoads era.

Texas ran only nine plays in ISU territory, seven of them coming on its final drive.

It was UT’s first shutout against an unranked team since 1961.

On offense, Mike Warren, the nation’s best freshman rusher, rambled for 157 yards on the ground, the fourth-best rookie rushing effort in school history. Joel Lanning received his first career start at quarterback, throwing for 188 yards and rushing for 64 yards.

Iowa State also recorded season highs in first downs (28) and offensive plays (92).
