Iowa State releases 2015 volleyball schedule

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State announced its full, 28-match regular season schedule for the 2015 season Wednesday. The schedule includes 13 home matches, featuring seven matches at Hilton Coliseum against teams that played in last season’s NCAA Volleyball Championship.

For the second season in a row, the Cyclones will kick off 2015 at home with the Iowa State Challenge. The Cyclones welcome a competitive field, starting it off on Friday, Aug. 28 against Atlantic 10 champions Dayton. Saturday, Aug. 29 features a doubleheader with matches against North Dakota and Marquette, who reached last year’s NCAA Championship as well.

ISU will then hit the road on back-to-back weekends. The weekend of Sept. 4-5 sees Iowa State head to Fairfield Inn & Suites Cavalier Classic in Charlottesville, Va. Iowa State will take on Appalachian State on Sept. 4, and follow that with a doubleheader against VCU and hosts Virginia on Sept. 5. Sept. 11-12 sees the Cyclones head across the state for the Hawkeye Challenge. Friday, Sept. 11 will feature a challenging doubleheader, starting with 2014 NCAA Championship second rounder Texas A&M and the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series match against Iowa that evening. The Cyclones willthen take on Milwaukee on Sept. 12.

The final week before conference play features a pair of marquee matches at Hilton Coliseum. After two straight seasons in Cedar Falls, the ISU-UNI rivalry returns to Hilton Coliseum on Wed., Sept. 16. The past two matches between the Cyclones and Panthers have gone five sets. The highlight of the non-conference schedule comes on Sat., Sept. 19 when Iowa State welcomes old Big 12 rivals Nebraska back to Hilton Coliseum. The last time the Huskers were at Hilton, then-No. 1 Nebraska fell to ISU in four sets.

Big 12 action starts on Sept. 26 when Iowa State welcomes Texas Tech to Ames. ISU then goes on a challenging four-match stretch against NCAA Championship teams, three of which are on the road, as follows: at Oklahoma Sept. 30, at Texas Oct. 3, home against Kansas State on Oct. 7 and at Kansas on Oct. 10. The Cyclones will welcome the Jayhawks and Sooners to Hilton on the same week on Oct. 28 and Oct. 31, respectively. The Cyclones’ home match with the Longhorns will be on Nov. 14.

Iowa State wraps up the home season on Wed., Nov. 25 against Baylor. The Cyclones were originally schedule for a bye weekend to close the season, but Iowa State will be returning to non-conference play at Colorado State on Nov. 28. The Rams are the six-time defending Mountain West champions, have appeared in 20-consecutive NCAA Volleyball Championships and made their 10th Sweet Sixteen last season.

The NCAA Volleyball Championship First and Second Rounds will be Dec. 4-6 on campus sites, the Regional Rounds on Dec. 11-12 in Des Moines, Austin, Lexington, Kentucky and San Diego and the National Semifinals and National Championship on Dec. 17-19 at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
