Jameel McKay named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week

The following is a press release courtesy of Iowa State athletics communications.

IRVING, Texas – Iowa State junior Jameel McKay has been recognized as Big 12 Newcomer of the Week after helping Iowa State to road wins at Oklahoma State and Texas last week.

McKay averaged a double-double last week, scoring 10.0 points and grabbing 11.5 rebounds per game to go along with seven blocked shots. He started with a 17-point, 14-rebound performance at Oklahoma State, as ISU won in Stillwater for the second straight season. McKay was strong on the glass at Texas as well, grabbing nine boards to go along with three blocks and three points. The Cyclones are 4-1 since he entered the starting lineup and he has 41 blocked shots in just 17 games since becoming eligible in December.

West Virginia’s Juwan Staten was named Big 12 Player of the Week.

The Cyclones and McKay are back in action on Wednesday when they host No. 20 Baylor at 8 p.m. The game will be televised by ESPNU.
