WBB: Baylor blows out the Cyclones

WACO, Texas – The Iowa State women’s basketball team fell to No. 3 Baylor 79-47 Tuesday night at the Ferrell Center. The loss dropped ISU to 11-4 overall on the season, 2-2 in Big 12 play. The Lady Bears are now 15-1, 4-0 in the Big 12.

Kidd Blaskowsky led Iowa State with a season-high 20 points on a season-best six 3-pointers. Brynna Fernstrom chipped in with 14 points for the Cyclones.

How it Happened

The Cyclones got off to a slow start, missing its first nine shots and taking six minutes to get on the board. It was the freshman, Brynna Fernstrom, who got the Cyclones on the board with back-to-back layups to reduce the Lady Bears’ early advantage to 8-4.

However, the buckets did not cause the Cyclones to break out of its early slump, as ISU went on to miss its next 16 shots as Baylor put up a 19-1 to get ahead 27-5. Iowa State was able to reduce the lead to 16 as Kidd Blaskowsky got hot from deep with a trio of 3-pointers. BU took a 19-point lead to the locker room at 37-18 as Alexis Prince hit a 3-pointer as time expired.

Iowa State did its best to battle back during the second half, reducing the Lady Bears lead to 15 at one point, but Iowa State’s shooting from the field continued to struggle, as ISU was again around 20 percent from the field for most of the second half.

Kidd Blaskowsky. A rough first half didn’t have many bright spots, but the shooting of the ISU junior from Sugar Land, Texas was one. Blaskowsky led ISU with 20 points on 6-of-14 shooting. With the result out of reach, Blaskowsky continued to work hard on the court, diving for loose balls and forcing jump balls.

Blaskowsky’s 20-point game made her the sixth-different Cyclone to record at least 20 points in a game, joining Jadda Buckley, Brynna Fernstrom, Seanna Johnson, Nikki Moody and Brynn Williamson.
