The Iowa State (14-4, 5-2 Big 12) women did something on Sunday that not many people would have predicted. They finished off a sweep of the No. 8 Texas Longhorns (14-4, 3-4 Big 12).
The Cyclones never led by more than two and trailed by as much as nine on their way to the 58-57 win in Austin, finishing off a sweep after Iowa State beat Texas 59-57 at Hilton Coliseum two weeks ago.
Iowa State fought back from a seven point deficit at the half, and outscored the Longhorns 29-21 in the second half.
Senior point guard Nikki Moody led the Cyclones, despite a sprained ankle, with 14 points and dished out five assists. Junior forward Seanna Johnson, 13 points and six rebounds, and senior forward Brynn Williamson, 11 points, were the other Cyclones to score in double-figures.
The Longhorns were led by Kelsey Lang’s 12 points.
Iowa State now sits in third place in the Big 12, one game ahead of TCU. The Cyclones will be back in action on Wednesday when Kansas comes to Hilton Coliseum for a 7 p.m. tip.
