Marquette transfer Deonte Burton committed to Iowa State last Saturday at the Big Four Classic but Fred Hoiberg and the Cyclones made the news official on Tuesday.
“We are excited to add Deonte to our program,” Hoiberg said about the 6-foot-4 guard. “Deonte is an elite athlete and a great student as well. He’s got the ability to stretch the defense and knock down shots on the perimeter. He’ll be a good fit for our program and what we like to do offensively.”
Burton, originally out of Vincent High School in Milwaukee, average 6.9 points with a team-high 35 steals as a freshman at Marquette, which landed him on the BIG EAST All-Rookie team in 2013-14. This season, Burton had averaged 6.4 points and shot 47.2 percent from the field in eight games.
Last year, Burton was also recognized with Marquette’s Academic Excellence Award.
Iowa State assistant coach and Burton’s lead recruiter Matt Abdelmassih recently tweeted: "Really excited to add a great kid & talent to our program. #cyclONEnation let’s give a big welcome to @DeeBurton30#cyclones#thefuture."
Out of high school, Burton was a consensus top-100 recruit. Burton was ranked as high as 39th by ESPN.com.
