LAKE COMO, Italy- The Iowa State women’s basketball team defeated Chemcats Chemnitz, 98-66, Wednesday evening in Lake Como, Italy to finish the Italian tour undefeated (3-0). The Cyclones shot 48 percent from the field in the rout of German-based Chemcats Chemnitz.

“They had a little edge to them,” head coach Bill Fennelly said. “We played great. We scored 98 points and we did a lot of great things. It was nice to see everyone contribute.”

Impressive ball handling from senior point guard Nikki Moody kept Iowa State ahead from the get-go. The Cyclones really opened things up after a pair of free-throw makes by senior Brynn Williamson after a technical foul by the Chemcats head coach. ISU followed with a 3-point make by sophomore Kidd Blaskowsky to lead 36-20. On the following play, Moody located a wide open Fallon Ellis underneath for a layup, 38-20. ISU would finish the half with a 20-point lead over a physical German team, 51-31.

Iowa State would maintain the double-digit lead throughout the game to close with a 98-66 victory. The Cyclones went 30-for-62 from the field in game three for 48 percent. Iowa State also went 14-of-29 from long range, with 42 total points coming from 3-pointers.

The Cyclones had five players in double-digits with Williamson leading the way with 18 points. Junior Kidd Blaskowsky knocked down four trey’s and finished the game with 14 points, while Seanna Johnson scored 16. Durr finished with 14 points and Moody rounded out the Cyclones in double digits with 13 and 10 assists.

“I thought we played 20 good minutes the first game, 30 minutes the second game and I thought we played 40 good minutes tonight,” he said. “To their credit they made progress every game.”

The Cyclones travel back to Ames on Friday, completing their 10-day Italian trip. Iowa State will kick off the regular season against USC Upstate on Nov. 16.
