UNLV transfer will visit Iowa State on April 11

It was only a matter of time until Iowa State and another high-profile transfer made news. Less than a week after Fred Hoiberg’s program’s season ended in the Sweet 16, a source has confirmed to CycloneFanatic.com that UNLV’s leading scorer from a season ago will visit Iowa State on April 11.

Bryce Dejean-Jones averaged 13.6 points per game last season for the Runnin’ Rebels. He is a 6-foot-5 guard who would be eligible to play immediately next season.

Here is how Iowa State’s pitch to Dejean-Jones, who is being courted by 50-some other schools (we’re told), will likely go:

Iowa State: "You see what we did with DeAndre Kane? That’s what we want to do with you."

As is the case with most transfers, there is a bit of baggage that comes with Dejean-Jones. The former top-100 recruit was suspended by head coach Dave Rice in early March for reportedly shoving teammate after a loss to San Diego State (according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal).

It is also notable that Dejean-Jones played his freshman season (2010-11) at USC, before transfering to UNLV.

Should this all work out, on paper, this looks like a direct replacement for DeAndre Kane. Dejean-Jones connected on 32.3 percent of his 3-point shots a season ago. He was a three assists per game man too.

As of now, Iowa State has two scholarships available to burn this offseason. Kansas prep point guard Clayton Custer is the only current member of Iowa State’s 2014 recruiting class.

Regardless of what happens with Dejean-Jones, expect Iowa State to court more transfers later this offseason.
