Cyclones lose second in a row

On a night that Iowa State made 12 3-pointers, the nation’s longest streak of scoring 70 points or more in a game came to an end.

Wait, what?

BOX SCORE

Tuesday night’s 74-61 Cyclone loss at Baylor was a peculiar one indeed. Neither Melvin Ejim nor Georges Niang scored a point for Iowa State in the first half. Yet somehow, the Cyclones still only trailed by a point thanks to some hot shooting from DeAndre Kane and critical contributions from Naz Long and Dustin Hogue

The second period wasn’t much different though. That Ejim/Niang duo combined to go 5-for-25 from the field in Iowa State’s seventh loss of the season. Kane was spectacular as the senior point guard connected on 5-of-9 3-pointers and scored 20 points in the defeat.

Baylor ended the game on a 13-0 run.

Big man Cory Jefferson was nearly unstoppable for the Bears. He went 8-of-13 from the field to lead the Bears with 21 points. Marksmen Brady Heslip was 5-for-8 from 3-point range, scored 18 points and ultimately played the role of closer for the Bears.

Up next for the Cyclones is a Saturday afternoon with another red-hot opponent, Oklahoma State. Senior Day will tip at 1 p.m. as the 2014 regular season will come to an end.
