IRVING, Texas – Top-ranked 197-pounder Kyven Gadson was named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for the fifth time in his career, league officials announced Monday. It is Gadson’s first Big 12 weekly award of the 2013-14 wrestling season.

Gadson knocked off No. 5 Scott Schiller 6-4 Sunday as the Cyclones fell to the top-ranked Gophers on Senior Day at Hilton Coliseum.

The win was Gadson’s first over the Gopher All-American in four career matches.

He controlled the pace of the match from start to finish, opening a 5-1 lead heading into the final stanza behind takedowns in both the first and second periods.

The Waterloo, Iowa, native finished the dual season undefeated for the second consecutive year, extending a 30-match dual win streak that dates back to Nov. 25, 2012 yesterday. The streak features seven pins and seven major decisions.

Gadson, who will be the No. 1 seed at 197 pounds for this year’s Big 12 Championship, improved to 23-2 overall on the season with the win over Schiller.
