Cyclones outlast TCU in road victory

It took the Iowa State men’s basketball team (21-5, 9-5) a while to heat up on Saturday afternoon against TCU (9-17, 0-14), but a strong second half brought home yet another win for the Cyclones. The Cyclones led only 32-30 at the half against the last place Horned Frogs but Iowa State was able to pull away late and pick up the 71-60 victory.

The Cyclones were led on the day by the usual cast of characters. Senior DeAndre Kane contributed 20 points, six rebounds and five assists. Sophomore Georges Niang added 19 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. After scoring 48 points and grabbing 18 rebounds in the first matchup against the Horned Frogs, senior Melvin Ejim had 14 points with four rebounds.

The Cyclones shot 28-60 (48.3 percent) from the field and made only one 3-pointer on the afternoon. TCU shot 22-60 (36.7 percent) from the field and made three shots from behind the arc.

Kyan Anderson led TCU on the afternoon; Anderson scored 18 points and dished out assists for the Horned Frogs.

The Cyclones’ next action will be Wednesday, Feb. 26 when the West Virginia Mountaineers come to Hilton Coliseum. The Mountaineers lost to Baylor 88-75 on Saturday.
