CFTV: Cyclone women top Wayne State in exhibition opener

Cyclone Fanatic’s coverage of Iowa State women’s basketball is once again brought to you by our good friends at Wilson Toyota of Ames located at 2212 S. Duff Ave.

AMES — It was a dominant afternoon for the Iowa State women’s basketball team and senior Hallie Christofferson

Bill Fennelly’s Cyclones were victorious in their first exhibition action against the Wayne State Wildcats by a score of 76-52, Sunday afternoon in Hilton Coliseum.

Christofferson got her game going early on for the Cyclones picking up a 3-point play the old fashioned way on the game’s second possession. Christofferson finished the day with 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting while grabbing 10 rebounds to lead the team.

The Cyclones also got crucial minutes from a freshman making her Hilton Coliseum debut. Guard Seanna Johnson, from Brookln Park, Minn., finished the game with 15 points and six rebounds, including three offensive, to finish as the team’s second leading scorer.

Junior guard Brynn Williamson also played a key role in the game especially early on, by hitting three 3-pointers in the first half of the game. She finished the night with 12 points.

The Cyclones shot 40.3 percent from the field, while holding the Wildcats to only 35.2 percent and 28 percent in the first half. Iowa State finished the game with only seven turnovers compared to 19 by the Wildcats, leading to the Cyclones outscoring Wayne State 24-5 in points off turnovers.

The Iowa State women will next be in action on Nov. 6 in an exhibition against Carthage at Hilton Coliseum.
