Iowa State Prepares For High Temperatures On Saturday

AMES, Iowa – With warm temperatures predicted for Iowa State’s Saturday night season opening football game against Northern Iowa at Jack Trice Stadium, fans are being reminded to prepare accordingly for hot conditions.

The 7 p.m. kickoff time was intentionally chosen because of potentially warm weather in late August.

Officials are encouraging fans to try and stay hydrated by drinking sufficient amounts of water before, during and after the game.

To assist with that suggestion, fans will be allowed to bring unopened bottles of water or empty, reusable beverage containers – which can be filled at drinking fountains on both concourses at Jack Trice Stadium – through entrance gates. Concession stands will be stocked with approximately 26,000 for-purchase bottles of water, far above normal levels.

ISU Police will also implement the following measures outside the stadium for pre- and during-game activity:

·         Golf carts will have coolers containing cold packs and bottled water.  These items can be provided to people who are in need of immediate cooling and/or fluids.

·         Pop-up tents will be placed at grass lot entrances to provide shade.

·         Cots will be placed in several of the tents to provide relief to patients awaiting medical response.

·         Mary Greeley Medical Center has been asked to provide additional paramedics to respond to heat-related issues.  Two ISU Police officers are also EMTs and all officers are medical first responders.

The anticipated temperature for kickoff is in the mid-80s or low-90s.
