AMES, Iowa – Iowa State redshirt freshman Sherron Dorsey-Walker has been chosen to participate with Athletes In Action in an August trip to the Ivory Coast.
“It is very humbling to be picked to participate in this tour,” Dorsey-Walker said. “It is truly a blessing. I want to go over there and take full advantage of this opportunity. I never knew I’d have the chance to go over to Africa. It is really just a dream come true for me.”
Dorsey-Walker will leave Ames on July 26 and join his teammates, which will include Division I student-athletes and current professional players, for five days of training in Dayton, Ohio.
Following the training session, the group will fly to the Ivory Coast city of Abijan to play four games against top-level completion in Africa. Athletes in Action also holds many basketball camps and clinics, while also distributing goods to the nation.
“Not many people get to experience something like this,” Dorsey-Walker said. “We have a chance to work on our game and impact lives.”
Among the games scheduled is one against Cote d’Ivoire, which finished fourth at the African qualifying championships for the 2012 Olympics.
Dorsey-Walker, who will be making his first trip outside the United States, and his teammates will conclude the trip on August 10.
