Cyclone Fanatic’s coverage of the 2013 YMCA Capital City League is brought to you by our good friends at Heartland Finishes.
When it comes to the Des Moines YMCA Capital City League, there hasn’t been a more consistent player over the last three years than Iowa State’s Bubu Palo.
In night No. 2 of the 2013 season, Palo recorded a triple-double with 36 points, 14 assists and 13 rebounds to lead his Coca-Cola Bottling Company team to a 115-98 win over the Walnut Creek YMCA roster that features two Cyclones, K.J. Bluford and Dustin Hogue.
Palo’s teammate, junior Percy Gibson, scored 30 points in Coca-Cola’s win with 11 rebounds as well.
Other highlights from Wednesday include…
*** The Matt Thomas/Sherron Dorsey-Walker combination moved to 2-0 on the summer. Dorsey-Walker didn’t quite match his record breaking 67 point performance from Sunday but did score 42 in Phoenix Renewable Resources’ 114-10 win over ADIO Chiropractic. Dorsey-Walker converted on 8-of-15 3-point attempts.
*** Thomas went 6-of-11 from 3-point range and scored 38 points in the win.
*** After two nights of play, Dorsey-Walker leads the league in scoring at an average of 54.5 points per game.
*** Despite his team’s losing effort vs. the Thomas/Dorsey-Walker combo, Iowa State’s sophomore point guard Naz Long stole the show. Long went 11-for-17 from 3-point range and led all scoreres on the night with 47. Stay tuned for an interview with Long later today at Cyclone Fanatic.
