Iowa State’s top recruiting target for its class of 2013 has made a verbal commitment to join Fred Hoiberg’s program.
Matt Thomas, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound shooting guard out of Onalaska, (Wisc.) informed the Iowa State and Virginia coaching staffs of this news on Thursday afternoon. Thomas informed CycloneFanatic.com of his decision via a phone interview shortly after it happened.
Thomas chose Iowa State over additional offers from Virginia, Wisconsin, Marquette, Minnesota, Boston College, Nebraska Creighton and Northern Iowa.
Thomas averaged 21.3 points per game while leading Onalaska to a WIAA Division 2 state championship during his junior season. Thomas is Iowa State’s first known commitment in its class of 2013.
